Practice Self-Empathy in the Wise Heart Community: Introducing a Virtual Practice Group Facilitated by MCD Companions - MCD Relationship Competency 4 - 90 min (Live Video Conference)

  • 4312 Southeast Stark Street Portland, OR, 97215 United States (map)

Is this you?

You value effective and compassionate communication. You want to cultivate mindfulness, and skills that help you create thriving relationships.

You’ve taken at least one workshop with Wise Heart, and have started to practice Mindful Compassionate Dialogue (MCD) in your own life. You know that these skills require consistent attention and support to integrate, and you’re looking for a structured practice opportunity.

You enjoy coming together in a community of practitioners with shared values to connect and enjoy mutual support.

What is it all about?

This is a new trial offering by Wise Heart’s MCD Companions. Join us bimonthly during March and April 2023! This group is open to 3-12 participants per session. We will explore the possibility of continuing to offer these practice groups ongoing if there is significant community interest.

This structured 90-minute virtual practice group will focus on MCD Relationship Competency #4: Self-Empathy. This is an opportunity to develop skills which support deeper integration of MCD practices into daily life.

Self-Empathy is the process of building a warm and compassionate relationship to your experience. It is an essential ingredient in a thriving relationship. To have a loving and conscious relationship with another, you also need to have a loving and conscious relationship with yourself.

Self-empathy gives you relief from internal conflict, criticism, and doubt. You learn to greet each part of your experience with compassion and acceptance, which gives you access to wise discernment and effective action.

What to expect:

The session will open with a guided meditation, reading, or presentation given by the MCD Companions to center and ground the group. You will then engage in structured exercises in pairs, small groups, or within the whole group. Exercises will be demonstrated first, and there will be an opportunity for debrief and questions after each exercise.

*We suggest printing out and bringing the Feelings & Needs List from Wise Heart’s Handouts webpage.
