Creating a Caring Community: A Middle School Giraffe Curriculum

$45.00

"Creating a Caring Community" was designed for and tested with 100 sixth graders and their teachers in Portland, Oregon. Students learned and made use of the material with a surprising sense of ease and confidence.

The curriculum offers concrete and practical skills to help kids create a caring classroom community by taking responsibility for their feelings and needs, expressing appreciation, empathizing with the needs of classmates, resolving conflict, and repairing relationships.  The curriculum is based on Nonviolent Communication as founded by Marshall Rosenberg.

"Creating a Caring Community" walks you through nine lessons.  Each lesson includes specific facilitation instructions, materials list, objectives, practice exercises and of course, the content to teach.  You will not only be teaching concepts and skills and building community, you will also be putting in place systems that can become a part of your school culture.
